Sen. Roberts' "Life in the Legislature" columns
“Life in the Legislature” is a column that I write on a regular basis as a way to communicate with the people in my district. I’ve written the column on a weekly basis during the legislative session and monthly when we’re not in session (mid-May to December). I send the column to the papers in my legislative district who have indicated an interest in publishing the column as a public service and I deeply appreciate their willingness to do so.
In Southwest Colorado, we come from a very diverse and large geographic area with lots of miles and mountain passes in between us. Through writing the column, I hope to reach as many of my readers as I can as to what I’m doing while serving as their legislator and to share my thinking behind my votes on behalf of the district. I’m the first to say that there are many things I don’t yet know and I am always willing to take in new information, particularly from those who live in the senate district, since my job is to represent you in the Colorado State Senate.
Given the political diversity in the district, my opinions as expressed in my column don’t always sit well with everyone, but at least I hope the columns help you know what I’m thinking. I’ll also post the columns as I write them so that those who don’t subscribe to the paper(s) can still read the column through this website.
We’ve added a feature to the website that will make it easy for people visiting the website to send me an email. You can find that on the “Contact Me” tab on the top of the website page. If there are other features you’d like me to consider adding, please let me know.
Thanks for visiting the website and I hope you’ll send me an email at ellen.roberts.senate@state.co.us or give me a call at (303)866-4884 with questions or comments you might have for me. I’ve got limited staff, (one part-time legislative aide and a part-time volunteer intern), during the session and no staff when we’re not in session, so please be patient, but I’ll do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible! – Ellen
